Taming The Tongue

"Whoso keepeth his mouth and his tongue keepeth his soul from troubles" (Proverbs 21:23).

In the Word of God are many laid down truths and principles that are laid for us to live by and avoid trouble. Many of the calamities we face and credit them to the devil, is not really the devil. It is as a result of our stubbornness to the Word of God. For example, the verse we just read above says,

"Whoso keepeth his mouth and his tongue keepeth his soul from troubles."

Now if one chooses to not keep his mouth and tongue and the trouble strikes his soul, is that the devil? NO. It was the person's disobedience to God's sovereign Word that ignited that trouble. It was not the devil.

So, one of the ways to preempt trouble is by taming your mouth and your tongue. How do you do that? You do that by training your your tongue to speak in line with God's Word.

Apostle Peter, speaking along this subject, tells us,

"For he that will love life, and see good days, let him refrain his tongue from evil, and his lips that they speak no guile:" (1 Peter 3:10).

You have to restrain (stop) your tongue from speaking evil, and lips that they speak no guile (deceit). The tongue and the lips will not stop my themselves. NO SINFUL ACT STOPS BY ITSELF; YOU HAVE TO PUT IT TO DEATH. YOU HAVE TO PUT IT OFF.

You have to rule the tongue at all times. Apostle James also tells us,

"And the tongue is [in a sense] a fire, the very world of injustice and unrighteousness; the tongue is set among our members as that which contaminates the entire body, and sets on fire the course of our life [the cycle of man’s existence], and is itself set on fire by hell (Gehenna).

For every species of beasts and birds, of reptiles and sea creatures, is tamed and has been tamed by the human race. But no one can tame the human tongue; it is a restless evil [undisciplined, unstable], full of deadly poison. With it we bless our Lord and Father, and with it we curse men, who have been made in the likeness of God. Out of the same mouth come both blessing and cursing. These things, my brothers, should not be this way [for we have a moral obligation to speak in a manner that reflects our fear of God and profound respect for His precepts]" (James 3:6-10).

We have a moral obligation to speak in a manner that reflects our fear of God and profound respect for His precepts (James 3:6-10). That is what the tongue is for. Hallelujah! God bless you.
