My Beloved

Song of Solomon 5:9- 'What is your beloved more than another beloved, O you fairest among women [taunted the ladies]? What is your beloved more than another beloved, that you should give us such a charge?'(AMP) In the above scripture, the woman referred to as 'the fairest among women' was being challenged by other ladies about the man she called her beloved; they wondered aloud as to why she was so crazy about him. 'What's so special about this guy?' they must have thought; 'There are many other worthy young men that can win a woman's love, so why would she seek this particular one so desperately?'

However, it seemed she had anticipated the question and was well prepared for it. Their question gave her more opportunity to tell them how much she admired 'her beloved'; she proudly talked about him, describing him the best way she could, and in the most intricate manner. She boldly asserted that he's the chief among ten thousand- oh, what confidence she expressed! She poured out her heart to the women, as she adoringly told them of the beauty that the one whom she loved possessed. She praised him unreservedly, with skillful and beautiful expressions, she even told them about his voice, and his speech; in her words, 'His voice and speech are exceedingly sweet...' Then, her beautiful conclusion went thus: '...yes, he is altogether lovely [the whole of him delights and is precious]. This is my beloved, and this is my friend, O daughters of Jerusalem!'(Song of Solomon 5:16). Her marvelous and meticulous description evoked a deep interest and yearning in the hearts of these women. They wanted to know him for themselves(Song of Solomon 6:1), more so being that she was the fairest among them all, and many other men would readily be at her beck and call. Now, let's take it down to this present day. As Christians, do we boldly tell others about the wonderful personality of Jesus? When we are sarcastically asked, 'What's so special about Him?', do we cower in shame and embarrassment instead of boldly speaking of His awesomeness to anyone who cares to listen? Do we know Him well enough to describe Him in such a deep and personal manner? Have we, like the 'fairest among women', stirred in others, a desire to know Jesus? Can you boldly call Him 'Your Beloved and Friend' amidst sneers and mockery? Do you tell the sick and hurting that He has the healing and soothing balm (Song of Solomon 5:13)? Do you tell them of the comfort and peace His sweet voice and His Word brings? Beloved, when we come face to face with other attractions and distractions wanting to win our love and take our hearts away from the Master, do we prove that we know that indeed 'Our Beloved is better than another beloved?' Would you boldly say to whoever or whatever is calling for your attention, 'I am my Beloved's!' (Song of Solomon 6:3)? Or is there someone or something else ravishing your heart? Let's check ourselves and ensure that at all times we are aware that Christ is indeed altogether lovely and that He is a Friend that loves us with a love beyond measure. Let's love Him too and tell others about Him unashamedly. He is the chief among ten thousand!
