Once more Jesus addressed the crowd. He said, “ I am the Light of the world. He who follows Me will not walk in the darkness, but will have the Light of life.” JOHN 8:12 AMP
After an incident attempting to get Jesus between a rock and a hard place concerning judgment, justice and forgiveness in the scene with the Adulterous Woman, Christ states emphatically "I am the light of the World" (Red letters). 'Such a bold claim, such a boastful statement, what right had He to make such a statement' is what the religious folks might have thought to themselves or even said openly. But we know that His testimony is true because He spoke not of Himself but of the derivative of His alignment with the Father in Heaven as seen in subsequent verses, but then what is the implication of this statement? Well then let us see.
First of all, in our natural ecosystem, the source of all light that powers said ecosystem is from the sun, and this does not deny the existence of other lights such as the stars and the moon. Jesus said I am THE LIGHT clearly defining His role as the original source of all that maintains our physical and spiritual ecosystem, to be THE light means that in His absence there can be NO light, so let's say you are rich and influential outside of Christ, you are in darkness; let's assume you have an accomplished career and have made a number of great strides in your field without Jesus, you are in darkness; let's pretend you've kept a good bill of health and even taken part in many proactive humanitarian activities outside of Jesus, this is darkness; let's even say that you are a moralist of the highest personal standard with great philosophy and apparent insight into a way of life that can bring "peace", "fulfillment" and "happiness" but it has nothing to do with Jesus, my friend this is still DARKNESS. Don't get me wrong, all of this is good but of itself they are like many specs of stars that litter a yet still dark night and pale in comparison to the true light that lighteth every man (John 1:9).
Brothers and Sisters, Jesus, like the sun is at the center of our entire economy and civilization and if just as when people thought the earth was flat or at the center of the universe still think that's not true well they are behind in Spiritual scientific discovery and would sooner or later discover that the solar system they know is a type and a shadow of the Christ that John beheld standing in the midst of the seven candlesticks. There are many lights, you yourself are a light but within the context of that which as the moon does derives and reflects it's illumination from the sun, Jesus. Look, you may be in a deep ditch of controversy and persecution but I tell you, you've got the light; you may not fit into the popular perspective or you may even be defying the status quo by taking a stand and proclaiming righteousness, then you've got the light; you may be losing out on pleasures, denying yourself of certain "amenities" to the end that Christ be revealed in you and through you, my brother my sister, you've got THE LIGHT.
Rejoice and be glad, arise and shine for your light (from THE light) has come and permit God's glory to be risen in you. And if you haven't gotten THE light well then what in the world are you waiting for?
