Text- Isaiah 59:1- “Behold, the LORD's hand is not shortened, that it cannot save…”
I explained yesterday that the Bible sometimes uses the word “save” to indicate deliverance from sin, while at other times, it is used to indicate rescue from danger or destruction. We then went on to talk about salvation from sin. Today, we will be discussing on salvation from danger and destruction.
RESCUE FROM DANGER OR DESTRUCTION
Acts 27:20- “And when neither sun nor stars in many days appeared, and no small tempest lay on us, all hope that we should be saved was then taken away”.
Acts 27 narrates the story of when Paul and others were sailing by the coasts of Asia; a journey on which they encountered so many dangers. In verse 20, the writer depicts the dangers they faced this way, “Wind and waves were battering us unmercifully, and we lost all hope of rescue.” (MSG)
In the midst of the chaos, Paul was assured of safely by an angel of the Lord. As recorded in Acts 27: 22-24, Paul said, “And now I exhort you to be of good cheer: for there shall be no loss of any man's life among you... For there stood by me this night the angel of God, whose I am, and whom I serve, Saying, Fear not, Paul… God hath given thee all them that sail with thee.”
Beloved, are the winds and waves of life currently battering you unmercifully? Do you seem to have lost all hope of rescue? Fear not! The LORD's hand is not shortened, that it cannot save you from danger and destruction.
Zephaniah 3: 16-17 says “Don’t be afraid. Dear Zion, don’t despair. Your God is present among you, a strong Warrior there to save you” You see, God is always present to save and to deliver you from danger and destruction, so don’t give any allowance to fear or despair.
The psalmist calls God our very present help in trouble (Psalm 46). If you understand the reality of God’s ever abiding presence, you will stand fearless at the cliff-edge of disaster; courageous in sea storm and earthquake; dauntless before the rush and roar of oceans; and unmoved by the tremors that shift mountains, knowing fully well that His hand is not shortened, that it cannot save you.
Psalm 50:15 records God saying, “Call upon Me in the day of trouble; I shall rescue you, and you will glorify Me”. What an incredible promise!
God beckons on us to call upon him whenever we are faced with the threat of danger or destruction. He gives us the assurance that if we do, He will save us and give us occasion for glorifying Him.
Essentially, we must sustain our communion with God by trusting him through our prayers when we are faced with trouble, and glorifying him with praises when we experience His salvation.
Beloved, nothing is too big for God to handle, and nothing is too small for Him to pay attention to. You can confidently trust in God and in His saving hand because He’s not distant and uncaring; He truly desires to save you from danger and destruction; and His hand is not shortened, that it cannot save you. Fear not!
PRAYERS
1. Father by your saving hand, save me from all forms of danger and destruction in Jesus Name.
2. I receive the grace not to be moved by what I see, but to wholly lean on God in times of trouble.
3.Holy Spirit, please teach me to glorify God as I should in times of victory.
