Text- Isaiah 2:3- “And many people shall go and say, Come ye, and let us go up to the mountain of the Lord, to the house of the God of Jacob; and he will teach us of his ways, and we will walk in his paths”
Sundays are special days for Christians; it’s the day when we gather around God, through his Word, to worship him and build one another up in faith. It is the day when we go up to the mountain of the Lord; and He teaches us His ways.
You see, Bible makes it clear to us in Isaiah 55:8-9 that His ways are different, and in fact higher, than our ways– “My thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith the Lord. For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts”
This God is the infinite One who knows the end from the beginning. The degree to which God’s ways are higher than ours is such that even the foolishness of God is wiser than the best of human wisdom, and the weakness of God is stronger than the greatest of human strength! (1Corinthians 1:25)
Romans 11:33 says, “O the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable are his judgments, and his ways past finding out!” I like the way The Message Bible renders that verse and the succeeding verses:
“Have you ever come on anything quite like this extravagant generosity of God, this deep, deep wisdom? It’s way over our heads. We’ll never figure it out. Is there anyone around who can explain God? Anyone smart enough to tell him what to do? Anyone who has done him such a huge favor, that God has to ask his advice? Everything comes from him; Everything happens through him; Everything ends up in him. Always glory! Always praise! Yes. Yes. Yes.” - Romans 11:33-36
Going by all we have said above about the ways of God, we can see that it is indeed a great privilege we have to go up to the house of God on Sundays like this, and have Him teach us of His ways – which otherwise are past finding!
Beloved, as you go to church today, I want you to go with a mission – “To learn the ways of God” Don’t go to socialize with friends; don’t go to learn a new chorus; in fact, don’t go to listen to a sermon – Go to learn the ways of God, because He will teach us of His ways.
The ways of God generally refer to God’s standards for the conduct of life. It is as we learn the ways of God that He begins an outworking of His grace in us, to the end that wonderful changes will be produced in our life, and as our text says, ‘and we will walk in his paths’.
Talking about the ways of God, John Gill says, “The place where these are taught is the church of God, and to this school all that desire to learn should go; and there is ever something more and more of these ways to be learnt; for they are not all learnt at once”
SHALOM!
PRAYERS
1. Father I thank you for this special privilege that I have to be taught of your ways. Thank you Lord Jesus, for your grace that counted me worthy.
2. Lord, show me your way! Day by day, Lord let me see you more clearly and know you more closely.
3. Lord, I receive the outworking of your grace in me, to the end that wonderful changes will be produced in my life, and I will walk in your paths.
