Daily Tonic || Avoid Time Wasters

Text- Ephesians 5:15-16 - “Look carefully then how you walk! Live purposefully and worthily and accurately, not as the unwise and witless, but as wise (sensible, intelligent people), Making the very most of the time…”

We all are creatures of time, and we are seriously preoccupied with that theme; we wear watches so that we can keep account of time, and we 'divide' our lives into fragments of time... Years, months, weeks, days, hours, minutes, seconds and so on.

Since life is divided into fragments of time, anything or anyone that wastes your time is inadvertently wasting your life; that is why we must be careful to avoid time wasters.

As stated in our text, we can make the best of our time in three ways:

1. Use it purposefully

If you can use your time purposefully, then you will live a purposeful life! There is this saying, “He who fails to plan, plans to fail” This is very true. You should be very purposeful with how you spend your time; structure and schedule your time purposefully every day, and follow your schedule strictly except there are unavoidable exigencies that come up.

2. Use it worthily

In other words, use your time for things that are worthy and worth the while; spend your time on things that are productive. Hear me beloved, don’t trade effectiveness for busyness. Challenge your schedule today; ask yourself if you are using your time worthily, or you are just cluttering your time with a lot of activities that are not worthwhile or productive. If you can maximize your time, then you will maximize your life.

3. Use it accurately

Using time accurately means being on point – that is, doing the right thing at the right time. Truly, one of the hardest things to do in life is to do the right thing; it becomes all the more difficult when you not only have to do the right thing, but you also have to do it at the right time! However, maintaining a lifestyle of discipline and consistency makes it very easy to do the right thing at the right time. If you are disciplined and consistent, you will use your time more accurately, and your life will be on point!

Some examples of time-wasters that you must avoid are as follows:

  • Sin

  • Gossip

  • Idleness

  • Wrong Relationships

  • Internet Surfing & Movies

  • Unnecessary phone calls/chats

  • Unnecessary extra-curricular activities

PRAYERS

1. Lord, from today, I choose to use my time purposefully. Help me so to do in Jesus Name.

2. Lord, from today, I choose to use my time worthily. Help me so to do in Jesus Name.

3. Lord, from today, I choose to use my time accurately. Help me so to do in Jesus Name.
