Daily Tonic || Be Consistent

Text- Matthew 24:13 “But the one who stands firm to the end will be saved”

I have come to realize that being consistent is as important, as is difficult to be, but when you scale through the huddles of consistency in anything in life, it becomes very easy to carry on.

Being consistent, in the context of today’s study, essentially means not wavering or deviating from acting in the right manner, doing things the right way, and walking the right path over time. Consistency is one of the attributes that matter most in the Christian faith and in life generally.

You see, the toughest thing about any noble endeavor in life is consistence – The toughest thing about walking the right path is that you have to keep walking the right path; the toughest thing about obeying the call of God is that you have to keep obeying… it would have been much easier if you just have to do it once and for all!

Zeal is good enough to start you off in life and in destiny, but as time progresses, there will be moments when you will reach out for zeal and it won’t be there. At such points, it is consistency that keeps you going.

One of the dangerous things about lack of consistency is that it always brings a man back to “square one”. When this cycle is repeated over and again, interest begins to wane, zeal is completely murdered, and you may end up giving up on yourself, on walking the right path, or on active and correct pursuit of divine destiny.

Let’s do a quick test here. Think of your life; are you more consistent with your faithfulness to anything (your favorite sports team, your job, your school, your spouse, etc.) than you are to God and Christ’s Church? If your answer is yes, then you need to re-evaluate and make adjustments.

Daniel 6:10 says, “Now when Daniel knew that the writing was signed, he went into his house; and his windows being open in his chamber toward Jerusalem, he kneeled upon his knees three times a day, and prayed, and gave thanks before his God, as he did aforetime.” That is consistency!

It is when you face serious opposition and/or discouragement that you know the real stuff you are made of. In the case of Daniel, even the threat of the Lions’ den was not enough to break his consistency. If you were the one, would the story have been the same?

If you truly desire to be consistent, the five words listed below must always be on your mind.

They must, more or less, become your watchword:

  • Practice – The more you do it, the easier it becomes to be consistent with it.

  • Continue – Just carry on. Never make excuses, no matter how valid it seems.

  • Persevere – Difficult times will come; you will sometimes face opposition and discouragement, but don’t you ever give up!

  • Determine – Make up your mind never to quit. Will power is great power!

  • Faithful – This cannot be over-emphasized. Faithfulness is the heart of consistency. Faithfulness and commitment go hand in hand; and it takes commitment to remain consistent.

PRAYERS

1. Father, I repent from all unfaithfulness and inconsistency in my walk with you. Forgive me Lord in Jesus Name

2. Father, root out every trait of inconsistency from my life in Jesus Name.

3. Lord, I ask that you grant me your grace for consistency. Please help me to be consistent in my spiritual life and in all areas of my life in Jesus Name.
