Daily Tonic || Men Of Substance (2)

Text –1 Chronicles 12:38- “All these men of war, that could keep rank, came with a perfect heart to Hebron, to make David king over all Israel: and all the rest also of Israel were of one heart to make David king.”

Yesterday, I mentioned that as you go through life, your paths must cross with certain men, whom I refer to as “men of substance”. I went on to say that when your paths cross with these individuals, and you respond to them correctly, by allowing them to make their God-sent contributions in your life, you will doubtless reign as king in the place of your divine destiny.

We discussed four out of the seven categories of men of substance that must come into your life. Today, we will talk about the remaining three categories:

5. TEACHERS Apart from the unconscious teachers that you learn from by observing their lives, there are certain people that you will enter into a conscious teacher-student relationship with. In Acts 18:26, Bible tells us about Aquila and Priscilla in the Bible, who took Apollos unto themselves, and taught him the way of God more perfectly. You need such men at different phases of your life, as you journey towards your divine destiny.

6. MENTORS The literal meaning of the word, mentor is “a wise and trusted teacher and counselor”. This implies that a mentor does more than teaching, they also supply guidance as you go through life. Unlike teachers, mentors do not only supply knowledge to you, they hold you by the hands and guide you step by step on the road. The Book of Ruth portrays Naomi as a mentor to Ruth, her Moabite daughter-in-law. In fact, in Ruth 3:1-4, she told Ruth about Boaz, and gave her counsel on how to approach him.

7. FATHER While teachers and mentors get involved in specific areas of your life, a Father gets involved in all the areas of your life. He is the person called of God to form you. A Father literarily incubates upon you and imparts your Spirit. God places a template in his hands to harness you for your divine destiny.

In 2 Timothy 1: 6, Paul, the Apostle admonished his dearly beloved son, Timothy to “stir up the gift of God, which is in thee by the putting on of my hands." From this verse, we are can glean that there are certain divine deposits of God required for your divine purpose, which can only be received through the ministry of a Father.

PRAYERS

1. Lord, please help me to remain teachable. I will not despise my teachers and I will not forsake instruction in Jesus Name.

2. Lord, I receive a humble heart that submits fully to wise counsel. I will not rebel against the counsel of the mentors you have placed in my life in Jesus Name.

3. If you do not yet know who your spiritual father is, ask the Lord to lead you to the person He has ordained to Father you… If God has joined you to a Spiritual father, ask God to help you to be a true Son – Faithful, loyal and obedient.
