Daily Tonic || Son, Give Me Your Heart (3)


Text- Proverbs 23:26- “My son, give me thine heart and let thine eyes observe my ways.”

In the course of discussing this topic, we have established that your heart is one of the three components of your soul – the seat of your individuality. We also established that the heart is made up of man’s emotions and reasoning. We said the heart is where your emotions and your reasoning emanate from.

So then, when God says “Son, give me your heart”, there are two things He necessarily implies. Firstly, He is saying “Son, give me your emotions”. Secondly, He is saying, “Son, give me your reasoning”.

Few days ago, we talked about emotions. Today, we will talk about reasoning.

Your reasoning is the summation of how you think. It largely controls and influences your belief. Let’s see few scriptures that talk about this:

- Matthew 9:4 - "Jesus knowing their thoughts said, Wherefore think ye evil in your hearts?" - Mark 2:6 - "Now some of the scribes were sitting there, reasoning in their hearts" - Mark 15:19 - “For out of the heart proceed evil thoughts…”

As children of God, we are to consciously give and continuously yield our reasoning to Him. How do we do this?

“Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things.” –Philippians 4:8

The Message Bible puts it this way, “You’ll do best by… meditating on things true, noble, reputable, authentic, compelling, gracious—the best, not the worst; the beautiful, not the ugly; things to praise, not things to curse.”

Beloved, I am fully convinced that learning to let go, and allowing God to have full control of our heart by totally surrendering and daily yielding our emotion and reasoning to him is the best thing we can do for ourselves.

I therefore admonish you today dearly beloved, to give your heart to God and as the Bible puts it, He will “direct your heart into the love of God, and into the patient waiting for Christ” (2 Thessalonians 3:5)

God is saying, “Son, give me your heart” What will be your response?

As for me, my answer is “Take my heart, and let it be consecrated Lord to you. Take my moment and my days; let them flow in ceaseless praise”

PRAYER

Lord, I give my heart to you. Please direct my heart into the love of God, and into the patient waiting for Christ.
