Text- 1 Thessalonians 5:23 "And the very God of peace sanctify you wholly; and I pray God your whole spirit and soul and body be preserved blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ"
There are two important things to state as we begin this topic.
Firstly, man is a being, so by his nature, he is constantly being and becoming something. Secondly, man is tripartite being: He is a Spirit, he has a Soul, and he lives in a Body.
What he does consistently with these three parts of his being determines what he will eventually become. So when I ask, what are you becoming? I am asking, what are you doing with your Spirit, Soul and Body?
Have you ever wondered why an office executive, working in an air-conditioned office earns more than the gate-man doing manual labor under the hot sun?
Have you ever wondered why an architect who designs a building plan earns more than the masons who do the actual building?
These show that functioning at the level of the Soul is more profitable than working at the level of the body. In other words, working with your brain pays more than working with your muscles!
Have you ever wondered what Jesus did in Luke 2: 46-47, when he was only a 12 year old boy? “And it came to pass, that after three days they found him in the temple, sitting in the midst of the doctors, both hearing them, and asking them questions. And all that heard him were astonished at his understanding and answers”.
How come He could engage the professors of his days in an intellectual discourse, having not gone to school? Have you ever wondered what happened in Acts 4:13? “When they saw the boldness of Peter and John, and perceived that they were unlearned and ignorant men, they marveled; and they took knowledge of them, that they had been with Jesus”. These show that the spiritual man is far ahead of the intelligent man. In fact, a preacher once said, "Your spirit is about 50 years ahead of your brain"... isn't that incredible!
It is your duty as a person to ensure that your becoming process is whole- Spirit, Soul and Body. I have however found that most people in this age, focus on academics and professional training alone in their becoming process, not knowing that these will only develop the mind; a fraction of their soul.
After acquiring degrees and numerous awards, the Spirit is famished, the body is weak, and they wonder why life still doesn’t add up despite all the knowledge they have acquired.
Beloved, you must make sure that no part of your being is left out or neglected as you go through life. Develop your spiritual life, maximize your metal capacity and take good care of your body.
PRAYER
Lord, according to the riches of your glory; strengthened me with power through your Spirit in my inner being. I pray also that my soul prospers and that I will be in good health in Jesus Name.
