Daily Tonic || Full of Eyes (4)

Text- Revelation 4:6, 8- “And before the throne there was a sea of glass like unto crystal: and in the midst of the throne, and round about the throne, were four living creatures full of eyes; eyes to look ahead, eyes to look behind… They were full of eyes, seeing around and within.”

When we started this series “Full of eyes”, I mentioned that if the creatures that are round about the throne of God are full of eyes, then it means the closer you get to that throne, the more you need eyes that can both look (decision and action) and see (sensitivity and sensibility).

While the creatures had eyes to look ahead and behind, Bible says they had eyes to see around and within. Looking takes deliberate action and focus, whereas seeing does not require dedicated attention; you only need to be sensitive and sensible.

When instead of seeing around, you begin to look around, you will become distracted. When instead of seeing within, you begin to look within, you will become egocentric. Both are detrimental to actualizing your vision.

This was the mistake that lot made in Genesis 13:10-11:

“Lot looked around and saw that the whole plain of the Jordan toward Zoar was well watered, like the garden of the Lord, like the land of Egypt. (This was before the Lord destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah.) So Lot chose for himself the whole plain of the Jordan...”

Lot reversed the order… He looked around, and saw ahead! And he ended up going to a place destined for doom and destruction.

The eyes to see around are the eyes that cure ignorance. These eyes make you aware of your surroundings, help you identify and place people correctly, and make you recognize opportunities.

If you have the eyes to see around, you will neither “do business with a crook nor marry an idiot” as a man of God once described the consequences of insensitivity.

You see a lot of people who are smart, have great visions, and know how to plan and strategize but mess things up at the point of actualizing the vision... What they lack is the eyes to see around… They are either not sensible and/or not sensitive enough to maximize the present moment.

Beloved, begin to see around you - identify opportunities, and strategically position yourself to take those opportunities, and make the best out of them. Yes, the future is great, but sensible and sensitive enough to recognize where your small beginnings are right now!

PRAYER

Lord, please give me eyes to see around. Help me both to be sensible and sensitive to divine opportunities and make the best of them, but not to become distracted and carried away by the things I see around me in Jesus Name.
