Daily Tonic || Making the Best Decisions (3)

Text- Proverbs 16:9 – “The heart of man plans his way, but the Lord directs his steps”

God has given us the power to make decisions. But since decisions have consequences, once you have made a decision, that decision now has power over you.

Think of it this way – if you jump from a three-storey building, you will fall to the ground. You simply can’t change your mind mid-way! That’s pretty clear, right? After jumping, you can’t say “Oh! I am not going again”… Once you make the decision to jump, that decision now has power over you.

So then, we must take necessary care in ensuring that we make the best decisions. Again remember, “Your decisions today will determine your destiny tomorrow!”

Another tool that aids in making the best decision, especially when you are presented with many good options is your DISCOVERIES.

As much as you must have a sharp discernment, you must also exert yourself to make findings and be wise enough to apply your discoveries. Many mistakes are avoidable if only people would do this.

Unfortunately these days, many Christians are too lazy to do their ‘home-work’. All they want to do is pray, pray and pray, thinking that alone is enough to choose rightly. So we have people who have sacrificed sound reasoning on the altar of spirituality.

Take for example, if you get two jobs and you’re wondering which one to take, you should not spend all the time fasting and praying for God to show you. Yes, you should definitely pray and probably fast about it, but you should also make some discoveries:

1. Which one offers a better salary 2. Which one has a higher degree of job security 3. Which would allow you enough time to serve God 4. Which would allow you enough time to be there for your family

By the time you evaluate these and many more, you will be able to decide which seems to be the best. Then, take that choice before God to help you discern whether or not it is truly the best.

Brother, if you desire to marry a Sister, observe and make findings about her! Don’t just say “The Lord told me”. Same goes for the Sister, if a brother comes to propose to you, do some background check on him. Don’t just “go to the Lord in Prayer”.

Based on your discoveries, you should make a temporary decision, then submit that decision to God, and by the help of the Holy Spirit, discern whether or not it is truly the best.

We need Christians that have both sound reasoning and sharp discernment. Then an only then can we have Christians that can lead an excellent life and make major marks for the Kingdom of God on the earth.

PRAYER

Father, please help me to develop sound reasoning and sharp discernment. Make me of quick understanding in Jesus Name.
