Text- Psalm 85:8 “I listen carefully to what God, the LORD is saying, for he speaks peace to his faithful people…”
For some days now, we have been examining how to recognize the voice and leading of God through our inner peace.
I have come to realize that there are times that my brain is still wrestling with a decision, but then deep within my spirit, there’s perfect peace. At such times, I forget follow through with the decision not minding the questions in my head.
One of the scriptures that helps shed more light on the language of peace is Colossians 3:15. It says, “And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to the which also ye are called in one body; and be ye thankful”
You see, our lives can only be directed by God through the recognition of His peace in our inner man if and only if we let this peace of God rule in our hearts.
The Amplified version renders Colossians 3:15 thus:
“Let the peace of Christ [the inner calm of one who walks daily with Him] be the controlling factor in your hearts [deciding and settling with finality all questions that arise in your minds, in that peaceful state]…”
You see, your inner peace comes through your daily walk with God, and it is supposed to act as an umpire; like a referee to judge whether you are playing foul or you are in alignment with God’s will.
The last phrase “in that peaceful state” is also highly instructive. This means if you are not in that peaceful state before issues arise, you cannot be led by it. You must be in that peaceful state that comes from walking daily with God before questions arise and critical decisions have to be made.
In other words, you must recognize that inner peace and live daily in it, so that when situations arise, you can discern what God is saying through your inner peace. An unworried heart and Spirit would be an indicator that God is speaking to you and/or leading you in a particular direction.
When Paul said in Col 3:15 that the peace of Christ should be the controlling factor in our hearts, it means that the peace of Christ must draw the lines for us. It must be the deciding factor in our steps and actions. Dearly beloved, don’t go ahead with anything unless you have absolute inner peace about it.
PRAYER
Father, please help me to be more sensitive to your voice and to the leadings of your Spirit as you speak to me through my inner peace in Jesus Name.
