Text- Acts 15:6 – “And the apostles and elders came together for to consider this matter.”
God made us to be rational beings. That is, God made us to be reasonable and logical, so He expects us to naturally do things based on logic, as opposed to being impulsive or unserious with life.
It is true that we should live one day at a time; we must however see to it that we make each day of our lives count. This starts from making sure everything we do with our time is worth the while, and is fully maximized.
Yes, we have the Holy Spirit to guide us through life, but the Holy Spirit is not a substitute to our brain. God expects us to think things through, and then submit our rational thinking to the judgment and leading of the Holy Spirit.
When we shut down our brains and expect the Holy Spirit to just lead us and show us what to do, when to do it, how to do it and all the intricate details, then we are expecting the impossible, and will only limit ourselves in life.
For the past few days, we have been discussing on how exactly to think through matters as believers who want to live a maximized life. We have learnt that we must consider the purpose and the problems of a matter before we venture into it.
The third thing we must consider in every matter is the PROSPECT.
It is not enough to examine the problems that may arise over an issue; we must also consider the god things that may come with it. That way we can weigh our options properly, and decide whether or not it’s worth the pain. The question of prospect is – what do I stand to gain in this?
For example, graduating from a school like Harvard comes with a lot of prospects. However, some of the problems with studying at Harvard may include difficulty in securing admission, costly tuition, academic stress, etc.
If you can cope with the problem – that is, you are brilliant enough to secure admission, you are rich enough to pay the tuition (or you can get a scholarship), and you have a high IQ, EQ and good stress-management skills, then you should be on your way to Harvard! It’s worth the pain.
One important point to note here is that you must develop the ability to recognize greatness in very unlikely places; you must develop the eyes to see the hidden prospects in things that many despise. That was the case with Andrew when he located the boy with five loaves and two fishes (John 6:8-9).
May God give you the eyes that can locate hidden potentials in Jesus Name.
PRAYER
Father, please grant me grace to rightly consider every matter, make the best out of every situation, and live a high-performance life for your praise and for your glory. I ask for the eyes to see greatness in unlikely places in life in Jesus Name.
