Text- Acts 15:6 – “And the apostles and elders came together for to consider this matter.”
In the past one week, we have been discussing how to consider the different matters that come up in our lives, to the end that we can approach them in the best possible way, and by so doing improve the quality of our lives.
As we round off on this series today, I want you to understand that it is not enough to have head knowledge about these things. We must come to a place where they become a part of us; ingrained into us as an intrinsic process.
We have talked about the importance of considering purpose, problems, prospects, principles, priorities, and perspective in every matter. Today, we’ll talk about the last but not the least.
From our text, we see that when an issue arose in the early Church, the apostles and the elders did not call for a prayer meeting. What they did was to come together to consider the matter, trusting the Holy Spirit to establish the truth by the mouth of ‘two witnesses’.
That lends to the fact that in considering matters, we must not forget to consider PEOPLE.
First, you should realize that your life is not all about you; there are people that your decisions and actions will directly or indirectly affect. You must consider such people when matters arise.
If an opportunity comes for you to sell your company for a very high price; don’t just go ahead because you’ll get a lot of money. Think about all your employees… how will they be treated by the new owner? Can you strike a deal that your employees will not be laid off because of the change in management?
There are many people in this generation who are so insensitive to the feelings of other. Their thinking is always self-centered and their actions are equally selfish. By so doing, they hurt, chase away or lose favor with the people that matter most in their lives. In effect, when they need people to have their back, nobody will be there for them.
Asides thinking about how the important people in your life are affected by a matter, you should also recognize the few people who must be a part of your decision-making process on different matters.
Bible says in Proverbs 11:14 that when a person lacks wise and sound counsel, he will inevitably fall into ruin and destruction, or into schemes which bring them to it. However, as the same verse says, “In the multitude of counsellors there is safety”
PRAYER Father, please grant me grace to rightly consider every matter; not to insensitive, selfish and self-centered; to make the best out of every situation; and to live a high-performance life for your praise and for your glory in Jesus Name.
