Text- 2 Samuel 5:10 "And David went on and on, and became great, and the LORD God of hosts was with him"
Life is filled with changes; there is, in fact, a common saying that the only constant thing in life is change. As such, we must be able to make quick transitions in order to navigate the changes successfully… This is where the ability to move on comes in.
One pertinent key to greatness is the ability to move on. It is important to move on in life so as not to be stuck in the past or overly occupied with the present, rather than taking hold of the future, especially a future that has God at the center.
Unfortunately, moving on is not all that easy to do; and to compound issues, a lot of people don’t even recognize when it’s time to move on.
There are certain things that keep men stuck in life, If we will go ahead to have a great future, we must be skilled in quickly detach from them and move on to what lies ahead.
1. Move on from your horrible past
It doesn’t matter how bad your past is, or how much mess you made of your yesterday; there is always hope for a better tomorrow.
The only being whose past is compulsorily more glorious than his future is Lucifer! He was designed with so much glory in heaven, but will end up thoroughly disgraced in the bottomless pits of hell.
Beloved, you are not Lucifer, so you have every right to believe for a better tomorrow. After all, God said his thoughts towards you are of good, and not of evil – to give you a hope and a future (Jeremiah 29:11).
Therefore beloved, move on from your horrible past to a brighter tomorrow.
2. Move on from your past glories & current achievements
This is very difficult for a lot of people to do. Truth is, success is sweet but if we tightly hold on to the success of yesteryear's, we may not make much out of the present and the future. If we refuse to move on from today’s achievements, we may jeopardize the opportunity to make tomorrow count.
Apostle Paul exemplified this in his letter to the Philippians. He said:
“Brethren, I do not count myself to have apprehended; but one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind and reaching forward to those things which are ahead, 14 I press toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus “ (Philippians 3: 13-14)
Keep moving beloved; let nothing (good or bad) from your past or present be strong enough to stop you. Allow neither discouragement nor complacency to hold you down. Come what may, make up your mind to keep making progress.
Shalom!
