Text- 2 Kings 4:24 – “Then She saddled an ass, and said to her servant, drive, go forward, slack not thy riding for me, except I bid thee” When people hear stuffs like, “

We should live one day at a time”, some think it implies being nonchalant about life, and live passively, taking whatever each day ‘offers’ us.

Contrary to this notion, such statement only allude to the fact that sufficient for each day is its own issues, so we much tackle life on a daily basis, and not bother over tomorrow while we still have today to deal with.

But then again, this does not mean we should focus so much on today that we fail to make plans and prepare for tomorrow. We sure should do that, but we must never forget to live in the ‘now’.

Living in the now while we draw from the lessons of the past, and strategize towards the future is the right way to live life. That is how to live one day at a time.

This principle calls for a great deal of flexibility, and this is what we see next in the example of the great woman of Shunem. According to our text, she saddled an ass, and said to her servant, drive, go forward, slack not thy riding for me, except I bid thee.

Let’s examine that phrase,

6. Except I bid thee

It is often said that a warrior that knows when to attack, but does not know when to retreat does not last on the warfront. The same is true with life in general; anyone who will thrive in life must know how to take steps, as well as how to take stops.

You can’t make the best out of life if you are very rigid. There is a measure of flexibility required to make life work. As such, you must embrace the possibility of change in plans and strategy, and give enough room for that to happen when necessary.

As much as you learn how to take steps and stops likewise, you must also allow God to order both your steps and your stops this year.

A good example here is Abraham. God told him in Genesis 22:2, to go to Mount Moriah, to sacrifice his son, Isaac. Upon getting to Mount Moriah in Genesis 22:12, the Lord said to him not to sacrifice the boy anymore.

If Abraham did not allow the Lord to order his stops, he could have disregarded the new instruction not to kill his son anymore. In that case, he would have taken a wrong step, believing that he was in the will of God by killing his future.

So then, you can’t survive on yesterday’s accuracy. You must be current in your accuracy and obedience, taking steps when necessary, and making stops when necessary.

May your sensitivity be heightened as you journey through this year in Jesus Name.

PRAYER

Father, I ask for heightened sensitivity to times and seasons; to recognize when to take steps and when to make stops this year. I release myself to you dear Lord, order my steps and my stops in Jesus Name.
