Text- 2 Corinthians 2:14- “But praise to God who makes us strong to overcome in Christ, and makes clear through us in every place the value of the knowledge of him”
Beloved, there is something called “The value of the knowledge of God”, and it is God’s will and desire to manifest this value as clearly as possible through every believer, including you, in every place.
In some other translations, the word ‘value’ is rendered as ‘fragrance’, ‘aroma’. In fact, Contemporary English Version of the Bible says “like the smell of a perfume”
The expression used by Paul in this verse stems from the fact that in those days, after a battle, there were incense-bearers in the procession of the conqueror; this was an essential part of the triumph of a Roman general. The smell of the incense was to alert people that the conqueror had come.
This is a picture of how your life should be as a believer. Everywhere you go… office, school, market, boardrooms, etc., there should be an aroma that radiates from you, bearing witness to the fact that the conqueror, Christ whom you have on your inside, has come.
See, your life must be a testimony to everyone around you that it indeed pays to serve Jesus! Your seriousness in school; your work ethics; your performance at your job; your conduct in marriage; your business involvements; your speech and your every action must make it clear everywhere you go that there is value in being a Christian.
I want you to ask yourself, when unbelievers around you observe your life, will they see the value of the knowledge of God? Will they be encouraged or discouraged to join you in following Christ?
Beloved, you must take serious care to make sure that your life is not a mockery to the Christ that you profess. Understand that the testimony of your life may determine the eternity of family, friends, classmates, coworkers, business partners, and even strangers.
There are countless unbelievers that have been discouraged from following Christ because of the things they have observed in the lives of certain Christians. You often hear those unbelievers say of those Christians, “I don’t want to be like them!”
Beloved, will your life be a testimony that it pays to serve the Lord? Will your life make clear the value of knowing Christ? Will your life provoke unbelievers to want to know your God?
You have been equipped with the knowledge and the power of God. This same power that raised Jesus from the dead is available to quicken you, and to empower you to shine as light everywhere you go, and to make clear the value of the knowledge of Christ like the smell of a perfume.
PRAYER
Lord, I yield myself as your workmanship. I will consciously and cautiously live a life that speaks well of my faith. Please make clear through me in every place, the value of knowing You.
