Shame and Guilt

Shame and guilt may be similar to many people, but in reality, the two are different words. Shame is act while guilt is you the doer (the person).

In the Bible, many times we are warned not be ashamed of God and his Word. Whenever we are ashamed of something, the next thing that comes to us is the fear of people and self-justification, which is a life of hypocrisy.

In shame, we cover our sins and weaknesses and pretend to be saints and strong because we fear what other people may think about us. And this a big problem with many people even among those eloquent men and women of God. Shame may make you look good in front of people, but it leads to death.

Guilt on the other hand is when you take up and acknowledge the responsibility of your action. It is also the point when you realize that your action has caged your very person, and you want and need to be free.

In guilt, you really don't care if other people know your actions or weaknesses, but you can't live in a hypocritical life, and you will confess to free your very person. Guilt may look bad, but it is good because it leads to confession and to freedom, which is life.

The good news is, don't be ashamed, because it leads to eternal death. It is okay to be guilty and confess your sins and weaknesses to God because you will be forgiven, and most importantly, you have eternal life.

The Bible tells us in 1 John 1:9 that If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.
