Text- 2Kings 6:15- “And when the servant of the man of God was risen early, and gone forth, behold, an host compassed the city both with horses and chariots. And the servant said unto him, Alas, my master! How shall we do?”
Today’s text tells the story of what happened when the king of Syria sent his armies to capture Elisha.
When the prophet’s servant woke up early in the morning to see that the armies of Syria had compassed the city of Dothan in an attempt to capture the prophet, he cried out to his master, and asked a simple question, “How shall we do?”
You see, in this life, there are times that we are faced with difficult situations; when our faith is challenged; when our resilience is put to test. At such times, we are faced with the same question that Elisha’s servant asked, “How shall we do?”
When the tides of life seem to be contrary, how shall we do?
When all hope seems to be lost, how shall we do?
When trials come, how shall we do?
When we receive a doctor’s diagnosis, how shall we do?
When we receive a bank notice, how shall we do?
When surrounded by enemies, how shall we do?
When the task before us is enormous, how shall we do?
…I can go on and on. The list is endless! I know you have faced situations like these before. Maybe you are even in one of such situations as you read this now.
The answer Elisha gave to the question is quite simple. See what Bible says in 2Kings 6:16, “And he [The prophet, Elisha] answered, FEAR NOT: for they that be with us are more than they that be with them”
Beloved, it doesn’t matter what life throws at you or what the enemy brings to your doorstep, let your standard reaction at all times be “FEAR NOT”.
Fear must never be your reaction to any situation in this life, because you have more at your disposal in Christ than the troubles and trials of life, as well as the wickedness of men can resist.
John tells us in 1 John 5:4, “For whatsoever is born of God overcomes the world: and this is the victory that overcomes the world, even our faith.”
Bible says in Hebrews 13:6, “So that we may boldly say, The Lord is my helper, and I will not fear what man shall do unto me”
As believers, the Lord is our helper, and we must build our confidence on this fact. We must refuse to be moved by what men, situations, and life itself throw at us. Be not threatened beloved; FEAR NOT… HAVE FAITH!
PRAYER
Lord, I have faith in you. Evermore, increase my faith; and grant me the wherewithal to respond with faith, and not with fear in all circumstances in Jesus Name.
