Daily Tonic || He Will Rescue You

Text- Psalm 50:15 – “Then, call on me when you are in trouble, and I will rescue you, and you will give me glory."

We see a very clear progression of events in today’s text:

  • You are in trouble

  • Call on God

  • He will rescue you

  • You will give Him glory

Really, it can’t get simpler than that! God beckons on us to call upon him whenever we are faced with the threat of danger or destruction. He gives us the assurance that if we do, He will save us and give us occasion for glorifying Him.

We see a profound example of divine rescue in Acts 27; the story of a time when Paul and others were sailing by the coasts of Asia; a journey on which they encountered so many dangers.

In verse 20 of that cahpter, the writer depicts the dangers that Paul and his company faced this way, “Wind and waves were battering us unmercifully, and we lost all hope of rescue.” (MSG)

In the midst of the chaos, Paul, having been assured by an angel said to the others, “And now I exhort you to be of good cheer: for there shall be no loss of any man's life among you... For there stood by me this night the angel of God, whose I am, and whom I serve, Saying, Fear not, Paul… God hath given thee all them that sail with thee.”

Beloved, are the winds and waves of life currently battering you unmercifully? Do you seem to have lost all hope of rescue? Fear not! The LORD's hand is not shortened, that it cannot save you from danger and destruction.

Zephaniah 3: 16-17 says “Don’t be afraid. Dear Zion, don’t despair. Your God is present among you, a strong Warrior there to save you” You see, God is always present to save and to deliver you from danger and destruction, so don’t give any allowance to fear or despair.

The psalmist calls God our very present help in trouble (Psalm 46:1). If you understand this reality of God’s ever abiding presence in the midst of trouble, you will stand fearless at the cliff-edge of disaster; courageous in sea storm and earthquake; dauntless before the rush and roar of oceans; and unmoved by the tremors that shift mountains.

Essentially, we must sustain our communion with God by trusting him through our prayers when we are faced with trouble, and glorifying him with praises when we experience His salvation.

Beloved, nothing is too big for God to handle, and nothing is too small for Him to pay attention to. You can confidently trust in God and in His saving hand because He’s not distant and uncaring; He truly desires to save you from danger and destruction; and His hand is not shortened, that it cannot save you. Fear not!

PRAYER

Father, I receive the grace not to be moved by what I see, but to wholly lean on you in times of trouble and to glorify you as I should in times of victory.
