Text- Luke 16:8 – “And the lord commended the unjust steward, because he had done wisely: for the children of this world are in their generation wiser than the children of light."
Frankly, we are gradually approaching the end of the first score of the 21st century, a century that has been marked with great advancements in science, technology and what have you.
In this century, everyone now uses smart phones, smart TVs, smart lock, smart invert, smart everything! How then can you be a Christian in this 21st century and not be smart? Beloved, smartness is a necessary appendage to whatever you are or that you become in this 21st century.
In our text, we see how the Lord commended the unjust steward because he had done wisely... We learn a very important lesson from this story; God loves smart people! Although, God does not approve of injustice, He loves to see people behave smartly.
If the Lord commended the unjust servant for his wisdom and smartness, how much more when just men and women behave smartly... How great will it be if we garnish our right behavior with smart conduct?
Jesus said something profound in that passage of scripture we took our text from, "for the children of this world are in their generation wiser than the children of light."... Beloved, this should not be so. Believers should never be outsmarted by the children of darkness.
Personally, it saddens my heart when I see Christians carrying placards, protesting against legalizing same sex marriages and all such laws we deem unbiblical.
My concern is, why don't we have solid Christians in the top echelons of the legislature and judiciary, such that it is the children don't of darkness that will have to carry placards to protest against our rulings and verdicts.
It is sad to note that while an average teen today spends about 8 hours on the internet, 30 percent of global web traffic is pornography. In fact, a research conducted few years ago showed that more than 1 in 5 searches are for pornography on mobile devices.
These people who share vicious contents and online gaming have devised means to drive traffic to their sites. They spend heavily on ads, which in any case are well crafted to create an appeal. They also keep their sites agog with fresh content so that people keep coming back... Should believers not do much more to propagate the gospel?
Beloved, we as children of light, in this 21st century must begin to take (and for some, keep taking) advantage of all the advancements in our world, especially the internet, and the academia to cover the earth with the Gospel of Jesus Christ and establish His Kingdom in every way we can.
See, there are far too many scientific evidences against Darwin's theory of evolution. We only need dedicated Christian researchers that will smartly invade mainstream science and get that lie out of our school curricula.
Brethren, I enjoin you today to get out of your comfort zone, and begin to make smart moves that will not only improve the quality of your life, but also contribute significantly to the advancement of the gospel and the agenda of God's kingdom on the earth.
PRAYER
Father, I commit today to begin to take smart steps and smart moves for the advancement of your kingdom. Grant me the grace so to do, and find me worthy as your instrument in Jesus Name.
