Text- Matthew 21:2 – “Saying unto them, Go into the village opposite you, and immediately you shall find a donkey tied, and a colt with her: loose them, and bring them unto me.”
The story of Jesus’ triumphant entry into Jerusalem is one of the most prominent stories of the Bible. We read from the Bible that Jesus rode triumphantly on a colt into the city of Jerusalem a week before his crucifixion.
My focus in today’s devotional is on where the colt was found; according to our text, Jesus told the two disciples He sent to go to the village opposite them to get the colt.
The phrase “Village Opposite” caught my attention one day as I was studying this portion of scripture. Firstly, it dawned on me that the colt that announced Jesus in the city was gotten from the village. This teaches us that greatness is usually locked up in unlikely places!
Ask yourself today, where is that village that you have overlooked and despised? An unlikely person; an unlikely opportunity; an unlikely idea; name it! Begin to take them seriously. See what Paul says in 1 Corinthians 1:26-29:
“For ye see your calling, brethren, how that not many wise men after the flesh, not many mighty, not many noble, are called: But God hath chosen the foolish things of the world to confound the wise; and God hath chosen the weak things of the world to confound the things which are mighty; And base things of the world, and things which are despised, hath God chosen, yea, and things which are not, to bring to nought things that are: That no flesh should glory in his presence.”
The next thing that struck me is that the village was described as “Opposite”. As I meditated on this, I came to conclude that Opposite does not necessarily mean contrary. In other words, the fact that you are faced with a challenging or difficult situation doesn’t negate the plan and purpose of God for you, and the great future that lies ahead of you.
Romans 8:28 says, “And we know that ALL THINGS work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose”… Bible didn’t say “all good things”, it didn’t say “All things you like”… It says ALL THINGS work together for good!
When you encounter a challenge, do you see it a stumbling block to greatness or as a stepping stone to greatness? Beloved, don’t give up in the face pf challenges, and don’t let your current circumstances discourage you and make you feel like you don’t deserve a shot to shine because you do. I tell you, greatness is right ahead of you even if current circumstances make you feel otherwise.
Beloved, you will soon be announced to the world, but there is a colt in the VILLAGE OPPOSITE you that will carry you triumphantly into the place of your destiny.
