Text- Isaiah 26:3 – “Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee.”
Have you ever met anyone who is always battle-ready? I have met some in my life, and I wonder how they cope with such a negative vibe. On the other hand, I have seen people who have totally transformed from the jet fighter that they were (as if they were designed for combat) into a cool, calm, collected fellow.
It excites me to see how much at peace these people are after their transformation, but I found out that this transformation always starts from being at peace with God and being at peace with themselves. We have discussed these in the course of this series.
Asides, the aforementioned two, we have discussed some other legs on which perfect peace stands:
Hold your peace in the storm
Follow peace with all men
Seek peace where there is none
Today we will discuss the sixth:
6. RESTORE PEACE WHERE IT HAS BEEN BROKEN
It’s very possible not to contribute actively to breach of peace, but we can contribute passively by acting indifferent when we see peace literally flying away.
Psalm 34:14 not only encourages us to seek peace, it also commands us to pursue it. In other words, we are called to be peacemakers. Jesus in the beatitudes said, “Blessed are the peacemakers for they shall be called the sons of God”
How many times have you seen two kids fighting on the road and you watched in amusement, or simply walked past them? If you could comfortably do that, you have not grasped perfect peace yet.
Again, and more importantly, how many times have you realized that someone has a ‘beef’ with you, and you simply ignore them like “who cares?”. Rather than act like that, you should take the lead to restore peace.
I know that there will be times that you also feel like you were being slighted, or that you were the one who was treated unfairly, or that if you take the lead to make peace, you may be taken for granted. All of those thoughts actually contribute, in a way, to the compromise of your inner peace, so make peace and let go of them once and for all.
Can you imagine that it was man who sinned against God, yet it was God who sent his only begotten son to die for our sins? What better example of a peacemaker can we get than that?
Jesus was wronged by us, yet he chose to suffer unjustly just to save us… Be like Jesus! Starting from this moment, begin to restore peace everywhere it has been broken.
PRAYER
Lord Jesus, thank you for giving me perfect peace. I ask for grace to reflect that peace every day of my life. Father, help me as I begin to take steps to restore peace where it has been broken in Jesus Name
