Daily Tonic || Mind Your Mind

Text – Romans 12:2– “Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will”

In our text today, we see that the mind is very pivotal to approving, and by extension fulfilling, God’s will for your life. For this reason, it is expedient for you to mind (guard, pay attention to, and take care of) your mind.

We know that man is a tripartite being; He is a Spirit, he has a soul, and he lives in a Body. The soul of man has three components – His heart, his mind, and his will. The mind of man is the storage faculty (memory card) of his being; it is that part of him that stores up knowledge, experiences, and all other forms of information.

Our text today drives us to conclude that a mind that is not renewed yields a man that is not transformed. Furthermore, a man that is not transformed cannot test and approve the will of God.

It is interesting to note that your mind cannot be replaced; it can only be renewed! You see, one thing about the mind is that its contents are determined by what it is exposed to. Consequently, the contents of your mind would determine what you are conformed to.

Since, your mind is gated by your senses, what becomes of your mind depends on what you expose it to through what you see (what you read; what you watch), what you ear, what you taste, what you smell, and what you feel. In order words, minding your mind would mean paying through attention to the things you expose yourself to as you go about your daily living.

Why is this important? The state of your mind is what determines the conformations of your life, which in turn, approves or disapproves God’s will for you. To fulfil God’s will, your mind has to be renewed, and must be guarded jealously against contaminants.

This is how your life is run, as a typical man:

  • Your senses feed your mind

  • Your mind feeds you heart (your reasoning and emotions)

  • Your heart determines your will (your choices and decisions)

  • Your will either approves (is in alignment with) God’s will or not.

Dearly beloved, everything starts from minding your mind, so begin to consciously mind your mind from today. Fill up your mind with good and profitable things, especially with the Word of God; and avoid interactions and exposures that can pollute or contaminate your mind. Shalom!

PRAYERS

1. Lord Jesus, help me to undo every wrong conformation in my life that has hitherto disapproved God’s will for me.

2. Lord, I ask you to help me as I make a commitment to the renewal of my mind today in Jesus Name.

3. Lord, please grant me the wisdom to know the kinds of interactions and exposures that I must avoid in order to guard my mind from pollution.
