Daily Tonic || Who Told You?

Text- Genesis 3:11 – “Who told you that you were naked?” asked the LORD God.

Today, there are so many messages flying across the air; there are just too many voices trying to get out attention… trying to tell us who we are; what we can do, what’s right; what’s wrong; what leads to success and what doesn’t etc.

We hear these many voices on the streets, in our offices and classrooms, on the TV, on social media, magazines… they are just everywhere! But the question is which voices have we chosen to believe?

In our text today, we see the story of Adam and Eve. When they disobeyed God, they suddenly realized that they were naked. They told God what they had realized and God asked, “Who told you?”

The nakedness of Adam and Eve was beyond just lack of physical covering; it was the sense of shame and condemnation that comes with sin. The devil tempted them to sin, and immediately brought a voice of condemnation afterwards.

The same way, there are a lot of voices trying to tempt and/or condemn us today, and sadly we have believed some of them. As you begin to evaluate some of those things that you have believed, my question to you is “Who told you?”

Who told you that sin doesn’t matter? Who told you that hell doesn’t exist? Who told you that you can live just as you please? When the word of God has clearly said in Revelations 21:8:

“But the cowardly, the unbelieving, the vile, the murderers, the sexually immoral, those who practice magic arts, the idolaters and all liars—they will be consigned to the fiery lake of burning sulfur. This is the second death.”

I have come to you with this question, “Who told you?” today, so that you can review the things you have been made to believe, find out where they came from, and sieve out every single one that doesn’t align with the word of God.

Beloved, who told you that you were born by mistake? Who told you that you were a product of accident? Who told you that there is no great future awaiting you? Who lied to you that can’t achieve your dreams, or that you can’t be successful? When God said in Jeremiah 29:11:

“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”

Don’t let the world define you; don’t let them tell you what’s right or wrong; don’t let any boss determine how far you can or can’t go in life; don’t let any teacher tell you that you can’t make it; don’t listen to any voice other than God’s and the voices he has sent to your life.

As you go out today, whenever any tempting or condemning thought comes to your mind, or anybody speaks a negative word to you, ask “Who told you?”. Don’t stop there, go ahead to find out what the scriptures say about that matter, so that your mind is renewed.

PRAYER

I refuse to listen to or believe any voice of temptation or condemnation that is trying to speak to me. I open up myself to you Lord, and to your word today. Speak to me in Jesus Name.
