Text – Galatians 3:24-25 – “Wherefore the Law was our schoolmaster to bring us unto Christ, that we might be justified by faith. But after that faith is come, we are no longer under a school master”

The word “law” occurs 223 times on the King James version of the New Testament, while the word “ordinances” (which is a variant of the word, law) appears 7 times. This shows us that the Bible has a lot to say to the New Testament believer about spiritual laws.

If the Bible has a lot to say on the subject of “LAWS”, it implies that the discussion on spiritual laws is very important for the believer. Sadly, this is one of the subjects that have polarized Christians across the globe.

Colossians 2:14 says, “Blotting out the handwriting of ordinances that was against us, which was contrary to us, and took it out of the way, nailing it to the cross” But then Paul yet again said in Romans 3:31 “Do we then make the law void through faith? God forbid; yea, we establish the law”

There seems to be a problem here, considering that these two verses of scripture (Authored by the same man, Paul) seems to be contradictory.

Certainly, a law that is established cannot be said to have been abolished at the same time. So, what are we to make of the law? Is the law to be established, or has it been nailed to the cross and abolished?

Like I mentioned earlier, this argument has polarized believers across the globe. A lot of debates are constantly ongoing in Christian circles about this issue. Some say the law is abolished; some say it is established. And both parties seem to provide valid Biblical justification to support their view.

The subject of spiritual laws has now become a divisive issue amongst Christians and much more so in recent times.

As I take on this subject in the next few days, it is important to declare up front that as expected of a genuine believer, I take the Bible hook, line and sinker as the Word of God.

Many people run into problem when they say “Oh! It was Paul that said that, not Jesus… Or that was Peter’s opinion, let’s see what Jesus said”. When we understand the unity and inerrancy of the Bible, we would realize that such assertions are dead on arrival.

Whether it was Peter that said it, or Paul, or Jesus… All Scripture is breathed out by God (2 Timothy 3:16). God spoke through 40 different men over a 1,500- year period and together, they deliver to us the cohesive view of God’s character and divine purpose, with no contradictions whatsoever.

This is the very first point of call before we go into the depth of discussing Spiritual Laws. You cannot fully understand and accept the mind of God except you first accept that all Scripture is breathed by God.

PRAYER

Lord, please open the eyes of my understanding to comprehend your eternal truth about spiritual laws. Help me to receive your word just as it is, and not exalt my rationalizations above your eternal truths in Jesus Name.
