Text – Galatians 3:24-25 – “Wherefore the Law was our schoolmaster to bring us unto Christ, that we might be justified by faith. But after that faith is come, we are no longer under a school master”
When the angel, Gabriel appeared to Daniel, he informed him in Daniel 9:26-27, “And after threescore and two weeks shall the Messiah be cut off… and he shall confirm the covenant with many for one week: and in the midst of the week he shall bring an end to sacrifice and offering…”
This particularly refers to religious ceremonial laws. Clearly, the death of Christ abolished the religious ceremonial laws of the Old Testament, vested in the Levitical priesthood. This is what we mostly see in the book of Hebrews.
Most times the word, Law (or any of its variants) is used in Hebrews; it refers specifically to religious ceremonial laws. Hebrews 9:1 affirms “Now the first covenant had regulations for worship and also an earthly sanctuary”
Expounding on this, verses 9-10 goes on to say, “This was an illustration for the present time, indicating that the gifts and sacrifices being offered were not able to clear the conscience of the worshipper. They are only… carnal ordinances, imposed on them until the new order came”
Now that the new order has come through the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ, there is no more need for carnal ordinances in regulating our worship to God. Matters of food and drink, and various ceremonial washings have been abolished.
Hebrews 7:11-12 says, “If perfection could have been attained through the Levitical priesthood – and indeed the law given to the people established that priesthood – why was there still need for another priesthood to come, one in the order of Melchizedek, not in the order of Aaron? For when the priesthood is changed, the law must be changed also”
The above scriptures, and many more, make it abundantly clear that Ceremonial laws of the Old Covenant have all been done away with in the New Covenant.
Since Jesus offered himself as the ultimate sacrifice on the cross and became our high priest forever, there is no more need for animal sacrifices, special feasts and dietary restrictions, as well as any other law/ordinance that originated in the Levitical priesthood.
Jesus became our once and for all sacrifice for sin, and the one and only mediator between man and God. So then it is established from the Scriptures that the New Testament explicitly annuls all religious ceremonial laws of the Old Testament.
It is the religious ceremonial laws that the law of Faith abolishes. All we need to do is put our faith in Jesus Christ, and that totally changes how we approach God.
As you go to Church today, approach God in that liberty you have through faith in Christ Jesus. For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus!

Thank you Lord Jesus for being the once and for all sacrifice for my sin, and paving a way for me to have fellowship with God. I rejoice in the liberty of Faith today, as I approach God’s presence through your Name, and for your Glory
