Text- Psalm 85:8 “I listen carefully to what God, the LORD is saying, for he speaks peace to his faithful people…”
Many believers are confused as to how God speaks. They wonder how some people are very sure they have heard from God; they wonder if such people hear God’s audible voice!
There are in fact many, who feel they will be more sure and certain of God’s leading if they hear His voice audibly. However Samuel heard an audible voice in 1 Samuel 3, yet he didn’t know it was God!
You know why? Bible said in 1 Samuel 3:7, “Now Samuel did not yet know the Lord, Neither was the word of the Lord yet revealed to him”. So then, recognizing God’s leading is not about the mode of communication, it’s more about your knowledge of God, and your revelation of His word.
The Psalmist, in our text today, says that he listens carefully to what God says because He speaks peace! In other words, one of the languages that God speaks is peace.
If you have come to know Christ, and you have surrendered your heart to Him, you would know what ‘inner peace’ means. Usually, when you ask people what they felt when they gave their lives to Christ, the diverse answers people give can be summarized by the word, PEACE.
That ‘PEACE’ is God’s language; it is Gods way of saying, “You’ve got it right with me, son/daughter”
When it comes to divine communication and leading, I personally believe that God speaks the language of peace more often than not. Even when God speaks through other means, one of the ways to confirm that God is indeed the one speaking is that you will have inner peace.
When God speaks to our hearts, He gives us a deep sense of internal peace to confirm that the message is from Him. When He is with us in a decision, He gives us this sense of internal peace to confirm that we are truly in His will.
This is one of the most basic ways of knowing what God is saying… Peace! When you lose your peace over a matter, even when everything seems to be working as planned, pull back a bit until you’re clear on what God is saying.
People’s lives have been preserved by listening to this ‘language of inner peace’. For instance, if you suddenly lose your peace over a planned trip, suspend it or cancel it altogether! Don’t for any reason violate the cautions you get from the disturbance of your inner peace; it’s one of the primary ways God communicates with us.
PRAYER
Father, please help me to be more sensitive to your voice and to the leadings of your Spirit as you speak to me through my inner peace in Jesus Name.
