Text- Matthew 6:33 – “But seek ye first the Kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you”
After Jesus was baptized in Jordan, he went into the wilderness; and having fasted for 40 days and 40 nights, the devil came to tempt him. The last of the three temptations was recorded in Matthew 4:8-9:
“Again, the devil took him up into an exceeding high mountain, and showed him all the kingdoms of the world, and the glory of them; And saith unto him, All these things will I give thee, if thou wilt fall down and worship me”
We learn some important things from this verse:
1. The world has kingdoms, in contrast with the kingdom of God 2. Every kingdom has glories 3. Worship is one major way to seek any Kingdom
You see, there are kingdoms in this world, and there is no doubt that these kingdoms have their own ‘glory’. They have special privileges and provisions that they afford. But God commands us to not seek these things.
God wants us to seek first His kingdom, and He will add unto us every other thing that people look for in the kingdoms of this world.
Beloved, I tell you assuredly, both in this life and in the one to come; it pays to seek first the kingdom of God. Firstly because at the end of time, even the kingdoms of this world will become the kingdom of our Lord.
“And the seventh angel sounded; and there were great voices in heaven saying, The kingdoms of this world are become the kingdom of our Lord, and of his Christ; and he shall reign forever and ever.” – Revelations 11:15
Don’t bother running after the privileges, provisions and protections that the kingdoms of this world can afford… Just seek the kingdom of God. When you do, all of those other things will be added to you on a platter of gold.
See when you seek the kingdom of God as a matter of priority, you will have to forfeit, or as it were lose, certain things. It is not a roller coaster journey… it’s a journey of sacrifices, but see what Jesus says in Luke 18:29-30:
“And he said unto them, Verily I unto you, there is no man that hath left house, or parents, or brethren, or wife, or children, for the kingdom of God’s sake, who shall not receive manifold more in this present time, and in the world to come life everlasting”.
Beloved, seek first the kingdom… it pays both in this life and in the one to come. And don’t forget that worship is one major way to seek any Kingdom. As you go to Church today, understand that through your service of worship, you are actually seeking the kingdom of God.
Shalom!
PRAYER
My father who art in heaven, hallowed be your name, your kingdom come. Let your kingdom be established in increasing measures in my heart, and on this earth in Jesus Name. Amen.
