"Let no filthy talk be heard from your mouths, but only what is good for building up people and meeting the need of the moment. This way you will administer grace to those who hear you" (Ephessians 4:29 ISV).
Most at times, it is very easy to respond to actions that come toward us accordingly. That is to say that when a negative action comes toward us, we mostly react accordingly. If it is a good action, we also respond in a good manner.
However, what does the Word of God really teach about these things? What does the Word of teach in our response to things that come our way? This is what the Lord Jesus said,
"But I say unto you which hear, Love your enemies, do good to them which hate you, Bless them that curse you, and pray for them which despitefully use you" (Luke 6:27-28).
Jesus teaches us to respond in love in the midst of negative and positive actions. THAT IS, LOVE RESPONSE TOWARDS ALL ACTIONS- GOOD AND BAD.
The opening verse we read revealed to us that we have to always speak words that minister grace to our hearers. We are not expected by our heavenly Father to speak negative and filthy words to people. Is that very possible? Emphatically yes! We are born again with the nature of our heavenly Father- the nature of love.
From our thoughts, words, actions and manner of life, let all be stemmed from and motivated by love. No matter how offended you are, never use vulgar language. And do not insult from your mind or heart. Uttered insults and "unuttered" insults are all the same. God sees the state of our hearts and minds in the midst of certain horrible situations.
We minister grace through our words. When we speak words of love, we do that genuinely. We are not speaking good so that people will think that we are good. No! We minister love-words because that is who we are, and that is what the Word of God tells us.
The truth is this: YOU WILL ALWAYS HAVE PEOPLE THAT WILL MISTREAT, THINK, AND SAY TERRIBLE THINGS ABOUT YOU. BUT YOU EQUALLY HAVE THE POWER OF GOD TO RESPOND IN LOVE. THAT IS WHERE YOUR VICTORY IS. THAT IS WHY THE LORD JESUS TOLD US AHEAD OF TIME TO WALK IN LOVE.
Never join those that talk ill of others even when they are right; even if what they are saying about those people is with tangible evidence.
In Proverbs 11:9, the Word of God tells us,
"With his mouth the godless man destroyeth his neighbour: but through knowledge shall the righteous be delivered."
When you talk evil of people, you take on the image of the evil (the destroyer). You become a destroyer. By refraining your tongue from evil words, you escape. The Word of God tells us,
Finally, be ye all of one mind, having compassion one of another, love as brethren, be pitiful, be courteous: Not rendering evil for evil, or railing for railing: but contrariwise blessing; knowing that ye are thereunto called, that ye should inherit a blessing. For he that will love life, and see good days, let him refrain his tongue from evil, and his lips that they speak no guile: (1 Peter 3:8-10).
Always speak in representation of the Almighty God. Bless others with your words because you are a blessing. Glory to God. God bless and keep you.
Have a great day.
